Brooklyn, New York --- In celebration of National Nurses Week, Maimonides Medical Center extended "Honorary Nurse" privileges to several prominent elected officials and community leaders. Each was provided with a custom-made nursing uniform and, after attending a brief orientation, assumed her/his new nursing responsibilities. Maimonides Medical Center recently opened a new, state-of-the-art Psychiatric Emergency Room. According to its director, Dr. Abraham Taub, the new unit was designed with the utmost attention to patient safety and confidentiality, and is open 24-hours-a-day.

The Maimonides Cardiac Institute recently updated its Progressive Coronary Care Unit to further enhance patient care. The 54-bed unit allows for all levels of monitoring as patients recover from cardiac events and/or procedures, and accommodates both cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery patients.

November 2, 2009 (Brooklyn, NY) - Maimonides Medical Center recently announced that the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has recognized its "Exemplary Outcomes" in surgical patient care. This designation comes as a result of participation in the ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, and places Maimonides among the Top 25 hospitals in the program.

(June 22, 2007 - Brooklyn, NY) - “Hospital Compare,” the US government website that helps the public review the quality of care at health care institutions, now publishes mortality rates for heart attack and heart failure patients (www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov). Only three hospitals in the nation were ranked in the top category for treating both heart failure and heart attacks – Maimonides Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian, and Hillcrest Hospital (Ohio).
